Biography
Peter F May writes and talks about wine, specialising in South Africa and less common varietals. In 2006 his book "Marilyn Merlot and the Naked Grape (Odd Wines from around the World) was published by Quirk Books of Philadelphia for worldwide distribution.
He holds the Wine & Spirit Education Trust Certificate and Higher Certificate with Distinction and in 2003 passed as a lecturer for The Cape Wine Academy, which is South Africa's official wine education body. He presented a tutored tasting to train staff of Vinopolis, Londons wine destination. In February 2004 he was awarded Honorary membership of the producers Pinotage Association. In May 2004 he was an Associate Judge at the 2004 International Wine Challenge in London and in September 2004judged at The South Africa National Wine Show 'Veritas' competition in Paarl and at the ABSA/Pinotage Association 'Top 10' Pinotage Competition. In 2005 he again judged at the ABSA/Pinotage Association 'Top 10' Pinotage Competition and was on the WINE magazine Sauvignon Blanc tasting panel; the results were published in the November 2005 issue.
Peter has visited winelands in California, New England, New York, Texas, Canada, France, Italy and South Africa.
He is a Member of the Circle of Wine Writers .
Presentations
Peter presents tastings regularly to Central London Wine Society, Welwyn Wine Society and Verulam Wine Tasting Club. He has also presented Pinotage Club wine tastings in London, for the South Africa Wine Society in Toronto, Canada and for Wine Cellar in Cape Town, South Africa. As well as ‘South Africa – The New Old World’, his subjects have included ‘Syrah/Shiraz around the World’, ‘By the Moon & Stars - Biodynamic Wines’, ‘California Wines’, ‘Wines of Ontario’, ‘Tomorrows Varieties – Today’.
