Tannic palate with masses of cheery fruit under. Great length. Needs lots more time (a half-full bottle was still opening up three days later) 6

Sette Ponte Oreno 2006 DIWT 9.7.09 Euro Food (W) £20+ 40% Merlot, 40% CS, 20% Sangiovese, 16 months new oak. Deep colour. Nose mostly vanilla. Tight palate with fruit under, but astringent to end 5+
Al Tesoro Mediterra 2007 (Bolgheri) DIWT 9.7.09 Liberty (W) £13 40% Syrah, 30% Merlot, 30% CS: soil in Bolgheri doesn't suit Sangiovese. Quite light weight and colour: palate is balanced, but slightly hollow. 5+
Vernaccia di San Gimigiano 2005 NWB 7.2.07 Majestic £7 Yellow. Flowers, honey & oak on nose. Clean, grapefruit and oak palate: reasonable length. 4+
